Finding Life Change In Giving It All

Recently I have been reading a book called Anything; The Prayer That Unlocked My God and My Soul by Jennie Allen.

It has reminded me that this life is nothing compared to the life to come if you are a Christian. That is easy to say, but if you take it to heart, your life will be changed for the better.

Jim Elliot wrote in a journal, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” That sounds all well and good, but what effect did it have on his life? Well, Jim Elliot was a missionary who gave his life to reach a people group called the Waodanis, a tribe-like group known for killing anyone and everything who opposed them. After several good encounters where Jim and his fellow missionaries would drop baskets of gifts to the tribe down below from a plane, they decided to land. Immediately after landing, they were all killed. He gave what he couldn’t keep, and gained what he could not lose.

I can’t say that I have completely applied that to my life, but I know it is worth it. Most of us can’t let go, myself included, of the things of this life. So, we find a middle ground, a place where we feel comfortable, but still spiritual. We aren’t willing to give God everything.

As Jennie Allen reminds us, God is searching for those who follow him with all they have. 2 Chronicles 16:9 states it this way, “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him.” ESV

What will you do? Will you give it all for Him? Or will you forget Who made you and deserves all your praise? It is your decision.

  1. Levi, thank you for mentioning this book. I’m currently reading it and am encouraged by Jennie’s heart that is willing to let God do anything in and through her. I also really like the quote by Jim Elliot. He is a hero of the faith and his story of giving all to God is inspiring. May we take up our cross and follow Christ wherever He leads. Blessings, Christina
P.S. I think it’s so neat that you started a blog! Keep it up, for God’s glory!
